From her humble beginnings, Christina Aguilera has risen to become one of the most dynamic and innovative female singers today, with a string of awards to her name, notably winning the best female pop vocal performance of 2004. With her striking vocal range, she has been favorably compared to singers such as Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston.

Christina Aguilera was born in Staten Island, New York on December 18th, 1980. Her father was an army sergeant and so Christina grew up in such varied places as Pittsburgh, Texas and Japan. From an early age, she possessed a distinctive singing voice and always had a desire to be a singer and to follow in the footsteps of her idols Billie Holliday and Ella Fitzgerald.

Her first successes came when she was less than 10 years old, regularly winning local amateur talent shows and competitions. She was reportedly so good in many of these competitions that other contestants would withdraw from the contest – and would even resort to the underhand tactic of vandalizing the family car.

In March, 1990 she appeared on the popular TV show Star Search, singing an old Ella Fitzgerald number. She didn’t win - but undeterred, she went on to sing at local football games as well as appearing on a Disney channel variety show. During the early ‘90s she started to record demo tapes in an effort to obtain a recording contract.

Her first major success came in the late ‘90s when she was chosen to record a song for the Disney movie Mulan – a song that was later nominated for a Golden Globe award. And her striking vocal ability was put to good use when she hit the difficult “High E” note on a cover version of Whitney Houston’s song Run to You.

Largely on the strength of her rendition of the Disney song, Aguilera was at last awarded a recording contract with RCA in 1999. Her debut album titled simply Christina Aguilera sold 8 million copies in the US and hit the charts at number one.

Having achieved virtually overnight stardom, Aguilera performed the following year at two major events – the Super Bowl and the White House Christmas gala. She also released a best-selling Spanish language album – despite not being able to speak the language – to cash in on the growing Spanish music market.

Her second album titled Stripped was released in the US in October, 2002. The title seemed to say it all as Aguilera began a more provocative and raunchy phase of her career. She starred in a handful of raunchy music videos and posed nude for such magazines as Rolling Stone and Maxim. Despite – or perhaps because of this new image - Aguilera became the number one Billboard female artist of 2003.

Like many other successful celebrities, Aguilera contributes generously to charity. She has supported such diverse causes as PETA, the Coalition against Domestic Violence and Hurricane Katrina victims.

She has also been very much involved with the AIDS cause over the years – reportedly she will sing alongside Elton John in September 2006 as part of his Fashion Rocks show benefiting AIDS charities.

In the last couple of years this versatile performer has changed her image yet again and tried to tone things down a little bit. She has starred in advertisements for such respected companies as Pepsi and Mercedes-Benz and has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show to convince people of the importance of voting.

And this talented and versatile performer is already contemplating her next accomplishment – in a recent interview she expressed her desire to become pregnant.

Christina cancels New Zealand tour

The American pop singer and writer Christina Aguilera has cancelled the New Zealand leg of her world tour after falling ill in Australia. The Fighter hitmaker has cancelled two shows on the Australian leg of her Back to Basics tour last week (27 July 07) after being diagnosed with a viral upper respiratory tract infection.

Now, Aguilera who is believed to be pregnant with the child of her hubby Jordan Bratman, has also canceled the rest of the concerts in New Zealand. Christina says that "I would like to apologize once again to all of my fans here in New Zealand for having to cancel my last two shows of my tour. "This is my first time in your beautiful country and I have really been looking forward to performing for you all. Unfortunately, I caught a bad flu virus and I have not been able to recover in time. "Thank you all for your continued love and support and I can't wait for the next time."

Aguilera moves to movies

The well known pop diva Christina Aguilera has made up her mind to work in movies. Christina had been contemplating on the thought for long but could not turn it to reality because she did not get the right offer. The 26 year old singer says "I am looking forward to moving into another form of what I feel is another creative outlet for me and that would be acting.” She added "It is something that, when I attempt to do it, I want to do it right so it's important for me that I do choose the right first role for myself."

Aguilera owns the Osbourne Mansion

According to some sources, the 26 year old Christina Aguilera has bought Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne’s former Beverley Hills home.

Ozzy and Sharon had turned the estate into a reality TV after shooting The Osbournes at their Los Angeles mansion. However, Ozzy put for the sale Doheny Drive estate in April this year (07) and said that "I don't want to stay in that house any more... The house holds bad memories for me because it reminds me of the terrible time Sharon got cancer and of times when me and the kids were doped out of our minds."

It is heard that Aguilera paid a big but unknown amount of money for the mansion and has decide to turn it into hr Los Angeles base.

Christina Aguilera is a 3 months expectant mommy

The pretty American pop singer and song writer Christina Aguilera is reported to be three months pregnant. According to the Page Six source, the ‘Back to Basics’ singer has given the news of the arrival of the young one to some of her friends.

The New York Post source said that “She’s been telling friends, she has to be three months now, because she’s announcing it.”

Until now, the 26 year old Christina had denied all claims to her pregnancy.

However now it is for sure that the ‘Stripped’ singer is pregnant with hubby John Bratman’s child. The reports of her pregnancy were known when the celebrity couple visited the New York’s Maternal Fetal Medicine Association which is famous for its state-of-art ultrasounds and high-risk pregnancies.

It is said that the ‘Dirty’ singer has developed a small and visible bump.

Christina had got married with the marketing manager Bratman in November 2005 after a three year long relationship. This is the couple’s first child.

 

The American pop singer, Christina Aguilera will make the people of Shanghai dance on her beats during her world tour this year (2007). Christina’s decision to perform in Shanghai came as a surprise because the city is considered to be quite conservative particularly with respect to the racy musical acts. Earlier, the Shanghai officials asked artists such as the Rolling Stones to not to perform their more sexually overt tunes and rapper Jay-Z got called off his set totally because of his lyrical content. Speculations are that Aguilera’s trip to China and Shanghai in particular got approved because in her third album the singer has presented herself as classier and old fashioned. This make over of Christina is strikingly different from her earlier image from her album ‘Stripped’. Perhaps it is due to this on screen simplicity that the Chinese government allowed her performance in Shanghai.

Hey Britney, Aguilera is not behind…she too is launching her own perfume. The old rivalry between Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears continues and after Britney, Aguilera too comes up with her perfume named ‘Simply Christina Aguilera’.

The pop singer Christina Aguilera signed the licensing agreement in January with the U.S consumer giant Proctor and Gamble which will do the major investment for the launch and promotion of the singer’s perfume.

Christina’s perfume ‘Simply Christina Aguilera’ will be launched all over the world in the autumn season. It will be a curvy glass bottle which is designed to show Christina’s silhouette. The perfume is supported by a print ad campaign featuring Aguilera’s bare back painted with a black lace design.

The punch line for Christina’s fragrance is ‘sometimes it’s all you need to wear.’

Aguilera on Miami beach

The ‘Jeannie in a Bottle’, Christina Aguilera is unwinding herself at one of the beautiful places in the world, the Miami beach. She is accompanied by several thousands of her Miami friends. Christina had a gala celebration in the Cameo nightclub in Miami Beach on the Saturday night, May 5, 2007. The celebration was due to the famous singer’s final performance at the South Florida on her Back to Basics Tour.

Christina arrived at around 1 a.m. at the famous South Beach Club and was escorted under heavy security to the Cameo’s sage VIP section where she danced, drank and partied whole night with her friends. She danced with her tour’s dancers and ban members for four hours. Christina also asked to play some old school time hip hop songs from DJ Irie.

The pop diva Christina Aguilera embellished the cover page of a famous teen magazine with her sexy look but unfortunately the magazine was taken off all the shelves in Australia. The reason being a photograph showing the genitalia of a young model published in that issue. The Sydney Morning Herald Newspaper reports that the obscene image featuring in the gossip section of the Dolly magazine shows a model’s dress falling open to reveal her nether regions as she walks down a catwalk.

However the disputed picture in the Dolly magazine made Aguilera pay the price. Initially more than 50,000 copies of the magazine were put to display but now all of them have been taken off. According to the publishers at the Australian Consolidated Press, before releasing the magazine, it should be marked with stickers such as “too rude” because of the offensive photograph.
